The University for Peace Signs a Cooperation Agreement with the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (GS/OAS)

 

July 11, 2016. Ciudad Colon, San Jose, Costa Rica. The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (GS/OAS), in representation of Secretary General, Ideli Salvatti; and the University for Peace (UPEACE), represented by its Rector, Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena, signed an agreement to establish a framework for cooperation mechanisms between the two Parties, particularly focusing in the areas of investigation, technical and academic assistance, relating to the issue of access to justice and law.

During this auspicious event, held at the UPEACE Campus, UPEACE Rector Francisco Rojas and Ideli Salvatti spoke about the possibility of organizing a series of joint events around key issues for the country and the region as a whole, and agreed to coordinate and carry out meetings and activities on matters of mutual interest and to provide advice to each other to achieve the objectives within the agreement.

At the meeting, also participated Helen Ahrens, Inti Schubert and two consultants, from the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), where Dr. Rojas noted the importance of the partnership with GIZ, which has had a great impact during the last year in the areas of access to justice.

The north of the United Nations with the SDG’s was also recognized by the Rector of UPEACE in which he mentioned that the objective # 16 is the common line of work that gives the opportunity to contribute from an anthropocentric point of view.
