- Students from UPEACE joined over 50 participants from other educational institutions for the 2025 edition of its Model United Nations Conference.
San José, Costa Rica, 2 June 2025 – The University for Peace (UPEACE) has successfully concluded the 2025 edition of its Model United Nations Conference (UPMUNC), an event bringing together current UPEACE students and more than 50 external delegates of diverse nationalities. This event takes place every year on the University’s main campus in El Rodeo de Mora, San José, Costa Rica.
Held under the inspiring theme “Pathway to Peace: Building Unity in the Face of Conflict”, UPMUNC 2025 took place from 2 to 4 June, offering a dynamic platform for dialogue, diplomacy, and youth leadership. Over three days, delegates took part in intensive committee sessions, simulating key bodies of the United Nations system, including the Security Council, General Assembly, UNEP, UNOOSA, and the IAEA. This hands-on approach enables participants to develop crucial skills in negotiation and conflict resolution.
The opening ceremony was held at the Kofi Annan Aula Magna and presided over by the Rector of the University for Peace, Dr Francisco Rojas Aravena. Dr Rojas Aravena officially welcomed the delegates and highlighted the importance of building bridges of understanding and promoting peaceful solutions in today’s complex global landscape.
Throughout the event, intercultural exchange and collaborative conflict resolution were actively encouraged through themed sessions, social activities, and networking spaces. These initiatives underscore the founding mission and ethos of UPEACE—committed to shaping change-makers in the pursuit of global peace.
With programmes such as UPMUNC, the University for Peace reaffirms its strong commitment to developing global leadership capable of contributing to a culture of peace and dialogue on an international scale.
