At the University for Peace (UPEACE), we are committed to fostering peace and understanding across the globe. Our regional offices and representatives play a crucial role in extending our mission to every corner of the world. By establishing a presence in key regions, we ensure that our educational programmes, research initiatives, and community outreach efforts resonate with local contexts and meet the unique needs of diverse populations.
UPEACE’s regional offices are strategically located in regions with diverse cultural, social, and political landscapes. Each office is staffed by dedicated professionals who bring deep regional expertise and a passion for peacebuilding.
The UPEACE Africa Programme, headquartered in Addis Ababa, supports peace in Africa as part of the University’s mission. Through active collaborations with over 30 universities, the programme engages in teaching, research, publications, and community outreach, which has significantly contributed to strengthening the efforts of regional organisations and national governments in Africa through capacity-building initiatives. In September 2021, the University officially inaugurated its Somalia Office – currently the largest country programme in Africa, which offers both master’s and doctorate degrees in key areas of peace and security with a focus on the African continent.

The UPEACE Centre the Hague was set up as a representative of the University in Europe to promote and facilitate the University’s programmes and activities in the Netherlands and other European countries, including the UPEACE Netherlands Scholarship, intended to support aspiring students of Dutch nationality interested in pursuing their degree at UPEACE headquarters in Costa Rica.

The UPEACE China Centre is responsible for the University for Peace’s activity and programs within the People’s Republic of China. Based in Beijing, the Centre coordinates UPEACE’s educational offerings and research initiatives throughout the country. This includes a unique doctorate degree program in Leadership and Sustainable Development, which provides mid-career professionals the opportunity to deepen their expertise in areas critical to China’s continued development, such as environmental protection, social innovation, and ethical leadership. Drawing on UPEACE’s global network of experts, the China Centre is a hub for interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge-sharing, supporting China’s transition towards a more sustainable and equitable future.

The UPEACE Geneva Office is coordinated by our Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and UNESCO in Paris. Located at the heart of international diplomacy, the Geneva Office serves as a hub for UPEACE’s engagement with global governance institutions and civil society organizations. With a special focus on interfaith and interreligious dialogue, the Geneva Office convenes diverse stakeholders to explore the role of spirituality and ethics in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges. By bridging academic research, policy expertise, and grassroots initiatives, the Geneva Office advances UPEACE’s mission of promoting peace, justice and human dignity through cooperative action. The UPEACE Honduras Office coordinates the University’s activity in that Central American nation. With a particular focus on strengthening the capacity of Honduras’ judicial system to address human rights violations, the Honduras Office works closely with government agencies, the United Nations, and civil society organizations. Through advocacy initiatives and and specialized training programs, the office aims to enhance the rule of law and promote accountability. By bridging academic expertise with practical, on-the-ground initiatives, the Honduras Office is a vital partner in Honduras’ ongoing efforts to build a more just, peaceful, and equitable society. The office’s work reflects UPEACE’s commitment to translating the university’s values of human dignity and nonviolence into tangible impacts within specific national and regional contexts.

The UPEACE Rome Office serves as the hub for the university’s work in the critical field of Artificial Intelligence and its impacts on society and peace. Located in the Italian capital, the Rome Office brings together researchers and industry leaders to explore the ethical, social, and security dimensions of AI technologies. Through collaborative research projects, public dialogues, and specialized training programs, the office aims to ensure AI development and deployment is aligned with UPEACE’s core values of human dignity, nonviolence, and sustainability.

UPEACE maintains a robust presence at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. This includes the university’s Permanent Observer to the UN, who represents UPEACE’s interests and facilitates the institution’s engagement with the global body. The New York-based team also works closely with the various official country representations to the UN, as well as the Office of the UN Secretary-General, to enhance collaboration on issues of peace, development, and global governance. By leveraging its strategic location and convening power, the UPEACE New York presence catalyzes interdisciplinary dialogue, advocates for policy solutions, and amplifies the university’s impact on the international stage and serves as a bridge between academia, diplomacy, and the UN system.
