• The University for Peace calls for an immediate ceasefire and respect for human rights, following the precautionary measures of the International Court of Justice. 

San Jose, Costa Rica, May 27, 2024. The University for Peace (UPEACE) expresses its deep dismay and sorrow at the recent attack on the refugee camp in Rafah, which has resulted in the tragic loss of lives of innocent civilians, the vast majority of whom are women and children. At this time of mourning and reflection, UPEACE urgently appeals to the international community for an immediate ceasefire and strict respect for human rights.  

It is imperative that all parties involved in the conflict respect the precautionary measures ordered by the International Court of Justice, which call for an immediate ceasefire and the suspension of all ground operations in Rafah. Compliance with these measures is not only a legal duty, but also a moral obligation to prevent further suffering and protect human dignity. 

UPEACE stresses the need to adhere to the rules and principles of international law and international humanitarian law. In times of conflict, it is crucial to remember our collective responsibility to protect all human lives, especially those in vulnerable conditions, such as women and children. We reiterate the urgent need to free all hostages and put an end to terrorist attacks in Gaza.  

We urge the international community, political leaders, and all concerned parties to unite in the defense of peace. Only through a sincere commitment to the values of humanity and mutual respect can we aspire to a future where peace and justice prevail, and the human rights of all people can be fully realized.

Universidad para la Paz hace llamado al Alto al Fuego Inmediato y al Respeto de los Derechos Humanos en Rafah 

  • La Universidad para la Paz llama a un alto al fuego inmediato y al respeto de los derechos humanos, siguiendo las medidas cautelares de la Corte Internacional de Justicia de la ONU. 

San José, Costa Rica, 27 de mayo de 2024. La Universidad para la Paz (UPAZ) expresa su profunda consternación y dolor ante el reciente ataque al campo de personas refugiadas en Rafah, que ha resultado en la trágica pérdida de vidas de personas civiles inocentes, en su gran mayoría mujeres y personas menores de edad. En este momento de luto y reflexión, la UPAZ hace un llamado urgente a la comunidad internacional para que se decrete un alto al fuego inmediato y se vele estrictamente por el respeto a los derechos humanos. 

Es imperativo que todas las partes involucradas en el conflicto respeten las medidas cautelares ordenadas por la Corte Internacional de Justicia de las Naciones Unidas, que exigen un alto inmediato al fuego y la suspensión de cualquier tipo de operaciones terrestres en Rafah. El cumplimiento de estas medidas no solo es un deber legal, sino también una obligación moral para prevenir más sufrimiento y proteger la dignidad humana de todos los seres humanos. 

La UPAZ subraya la necesidad de adherirse a las normas y principios del Derecho Internacional y del Derecho Internacional Humanitario. En tiempos de conflicto, es crucial recordar nuestra responsabilidad colectiva de proteger todas las vidas humanas, especialmente las de las personas en condiciones de vulnerabilidad, como lo son las mujeres y las personas menores de edad. Reiteramos la urgente necesidad de liberar a todas las personas rehenes y poner fin a los ataques terroristas en Gaza. 

Instamos a la comunidad internacional, a líderes en política y a todas las partes involucradas a unirse en la defensa de la paz. Solo mediante un compromiso sincero con los valores de la humanidad y el respeto mutuo, podemos aspirar a un futuro donde la paz y la justicia prevalezcan y los derechos humanos de todas las personas puedan ejercerse plenamente.
